A little about me. Most recently I received a Master of Accounting after earning a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy, both from the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. As you can see from the picture, in addition to graduate studies I also juggled being married and having kids. My wife and I have two awesome boys age 4 and 11 months. In fact the only reason I am able to work on this long time ambition of mine is because Mr. 11 months is kinda sleeping.
I got started in accounting when I took an intro course at a local community college. The course was more of a book keeping class -here is accounting, this is kinda why, and this is how it all works. Luckily I saw past the tedium and got a taste of what accounting really was. What I mean to say is that I got hooked.
Most, if not all, of my professors would say things like "This is some really exciting stuff!". Even through grad school I thought that was bogus. There is nothing that is really exciting about accounting. Interesting, yes. Challenging, yes. Fun... sometimes. I never at any point through all of it thought to myself "wow this is pretty exciting!" nope not once. More common were classmates with a glazed look after lecture, lost souls looking for food. Sadly that was me many, many times. Accounting is not easy, but it can be easier.
Cutting to the real purpose for my writing, to reduce the glaze and help you see through the fog. I can't begin to remember how many times I thought to myself "this is just a silly way to teach this wouldn't ... be better?" Well now I find out.
I am going to tackle everything accounting. Basic, intermediate and advanced. History and emerging issues. Whats better? I am going to do my best to use analogies and examples as much as I can to help you see the big picture!
In the end I hope that accounting students will find this helpful and accountants will find it moderately entertaining. I am open to suggestions for future topics, comment or send me a message. To keep it fun I intentionally place grammar, punctuation and spelling errors sporadically through my posts so find em' if you can!
